Founded in 1996, Garlic Theatre is a Visual Theatre Company that uses image, puppet animation, movement and live music to create theatre productions of artistic excellence. We aim to challenge, entertain and stimulate people of all ages through work, which encourages imaginative play and develops a new awareness of the power of puppet animation.
On tour in the UK
Our productions of 'Rapunzel', 'George and the Dragon', 'Sindbad the Sailor', 'Flea Circus', ‘Fiddlesticks' and ‘The Sorcerer's Apprentice' have reached young audiences in Theatres, Art Centres and schools throughout the United Kingdom. We tour regularly to the Little Angel Marionette Theatre , the Lyric Theatre in London and play regularly at numerous U.K. Festivals including the Edinburgh Animation Festival and Blackpool Puppet Festival.

International FestivalsGarlic Theatre has toured to 15 countries outside the UK winning 5 awards in International Puppet Festivals. George and the Dragon won the first prize at the 'Iron Rooster Festival' , Gyor in 1999 and won prizes at Lutke Ljubljana and the 32 nd PIF in Zagreb. The Company won the Luk Vincent First Prize at Gent Figeuro 2000 in July. 'Rapunzel' featured at the International Puppet Festival in Pakistan in October 1996 and with the help of British Council funding, 'George and the Dragon' has played in International Puppet Festivals in Slovenia, Hungary and Zagreb. In 2001, the Company performed in Llleida and Gava (Spain), the Company then made an honoury return visit to Ghent (Belgium) where they won the Festival in 2000. |
Garlic Theatre was the first British Company to participate in the Brazilian International Festival in Belo Horizonte in August as well as in Festivals in Canela and Curitiba (S.America). In September, Garlic Theatre was the first British Company to participate in Kramfors Puppetry Festival, Sweden and the Company performed 'George and the Dragon' and 'Sindbad the Sailor' at the Festival of Wonder, Denmark in November 2001. In 2002 the Company performed in Aland, Finland, the Singapore Arts Festival and Meppel Festival in Holland, Belfast International Festival and Visions 2002 Brighton UK. In 2003 Garlic toured extensively in the UK and played at Figeuro 2003 in Gent and the Dublin International Festival. In 2004 Garlic Theatre participated in the Taiwan 2004 Lake Dabei culture and art festival of Kaohsiung county.
'Garlic Theatre' works within a collaborative artistic process and employs guest directors, storytelling consultants and musicians to work on their productions.
